I did a restart for avast but after that my pc wouldnt post so i started messing around with **** i found out it was my ram, i have Ballistix PC2-8500 and PC2-5300 at 800mhz 4-4-4-12. I took the 8500 sticks out and it boots into vista but a lot of my programs like msn and avast crash so what can the problem be?

Edit

More stuff is starting to crash i just lost windows defender

Edit

I tested both the 8500 sticks and my pc will not work with them in any slot.

Have you tried removing the overclocks on your 5300 ram and the cpu? Maybe checked the voltage for them? Also have you run memtest on all your sticks?

PK!

Its all running at stock atm with just the two 5300 sticks, with the 8500 stick/s i just get a black screen so i will run memtest on the 5300 now.

You could set to 5-5-5-15 and whatever the highest voltage range for the 8500 is so long as it falls inline with the 5300 voltage, if not a best point.

Thats a very odd RAM combo to be running tbh.

Programs crashing like that randomly and random restarts is generally ram errors so your on the right track atleast..

Well i had them together for 2 months with no errors at 4-4-4-12 800mhz 2.2v
