I have just got an asus MG278Q free sync bit of a nightmare had to go backwards and forwards to the store to get the right power cable now its finally on and i have 1440p enabled which looks great i cant enable 144hz on my desktop?

I have a 280x msi (i know freesync isnt supported i plan on upgrading in the next month but wanted the monitor now)

iv tried all the cables that come in the box but it wont give me the option to set the refresh rate above 60hz

I am unable to put the dvd disk in that came with it due to not having a disk drive could this be the issue?

any ideas im getting really frustrated the whole thing so far has been a nightmare i just want to get it working...

If you want what is on the disc you can simply download it from here

For 144hz you will need an appropriate cable like Displayport or Dual link DVI

whats one of them ? i dont have a full size displayports on my msi 280x it has a hdmi what i presume is dvi and two small ports im not sure what they are

That's a 260x pictured but I am just using it for showing an example.. You will not be able to get 144hz with the hdmi cable and you need dual link dvi not vanilla dvi forr 144hz also

This is the difference between the dvi: [IMG]http://i.stack.imgur.com/tuzbC.png

On your card you will need to use the blue dual link dvi or one of the mini display ports beside the hdmi

i just checked the dvi supplied is a dual link as shown above yet it still dont get any options for 144hz not sure if this is related but when i go to windows and advanced settings in screen resolution its only finding a generic pnp monitor?

Have you tried selecting the refresh rate from your video cards control panel?

Also check in windows itself by going into control panel, display, adjust resolution, advance settings, monitor, and change the refresh rate to 144Hz there, hit apply.

I am not sure if there is a specific driver for the actual monitor but you can always try going into device manager and search for driver via selecting the panel right click and update driver software then select search automatically using windows update, in any case you should still be able to select refresh rate, try forcing it in global setting under the above panel I displayed also

iv tried the above and both say its not possible to set the monitor to anything over 60hz

my gpu isnt picking up the monitor i dont think ?

That's very strange for me on the Benq I had all I had to do was select the refresh rate from the nvidia control panel. I am really not sure as to why it is not allowing you to do so with a dual link dvi. When you go into display adapter properties/monitor/properties/Events
what does it say under the information section?
Can you enable Freesync by opening the AMD Catalyst Control Center. Place a check mark next to Enable under AMD FreeSync technology for DP Adaptive Sync. Click Apply?

Edit: it seems that card is not compatible with freesync :/ http://support.amd.com/en-us/search/faq/219

Also interestingly it states "All products must be connected to a display that supports DisplayPort Adaptive-Sync."

i know the card doesnt support freesync but it should still produce the 144hz where possible surely ? i think my issue is when i right click>screen res>advance settings> its only showing a pnp monitor it doesnt have the model

Dual Link DVI can only officially do 1080P 144HZ, it cannot do 1440P 144hz. The posters above that recommend a DVI cable are just wrong.

You need to use Display Port. It's the only way to get 1440P 144Hz. Your GPU has mini Display port connections, so you'll need to buy a fullsize DP to mini DP cable. Then you'll be able to use 144HZ at 1440p. Make sure you buy a VESA certified 1.2a cable.

I would imagine so yes, absolutely should. After some searching it seems you are not alone with this as many have had the same issue.
It should be able to output 144hz with a dual link dvi cable in a dual link dvi slot. Be certain that cable is a dual link cable.

Yes You're correct on that I failed to check the resolution he is using

yep that hopefully is it then, i have throughout this had my resolution set at 1440, i did just try and downscale more options appeared however they were all under 60hz it did not offer above 60

I had exactly the same problem as yourself, i just got this monitor a couple of weeks ago, and i have a 280x toxic with only mini dp inputs on it, luckily i had one of these lying about in my parts box

Everything's working great now but i intend to get a proper lead in future as i dont really like adapters.
still shows as generic pnp monitor, and i couldn't find any drivers for the monitor, so i'm sure thats how it's meant to be.
One final thing, what a great monitor :D i cant wait to upgrade my card to get the best from it, but the 280x is still running older games pretty well.
