Ive got the free version of AVG, and its briliant, BUT every few weeks, something kills the email scanner on it, the little square in the bottom thats normally got 4 colours on it goes grey and black, and the only thing I can do is reinstall it. Which is fine but id like to find out what keeps making it do this. Ive got Adaware and Spybot, and the AVG scans daily and finds nothing, as do the spyware (other than cookies and stuff)

The only thing I did before I switched the computer off last night was use the msconfig to stop quick time booting up on start up (which for some reason it pops up and appears again even though ive told it not to) and also stopped my nokia stuff for my phone booting up when the computer is turned on.

Any ideas why this keeps happening?

No it says its not fully functional. And I must pay urgent attention to it.
Tried to get it to update and it says this

Never heard of this happening but it is slightly worrying that an anti-virus program can just stop working like that! I use AVG myself, but if I was in your shoes I would change to a different solution.
