I couldn't see any body damage, so i guessed it had died a mechanical death anfter a hard life of being ragged around.

Looks in pretty good condition bar the missing parts, is it going to be crushed?
Would have thought so. Waste of a perfectly good car in order to satisty a government obsession IMO.

not a comment id expect to hear you make

the idiots with no license/mot/tax/insurance are an absolute menace.

And whats more, most of the people with all of the above think they are above the law, and dont need it cos "they're streetwise inn1t"

only way to get through to them that they arent, is to turn their cars into coke cans, and mail them back to them.

im totally for this, and its far from a government session.

Fine, confiscate the car, take it away, do whatever you want. But why crush it? Why destroy something which could prove useful to someone else?

It's just mindless waste. When they repossess your house for not paying, they don't bulldoze it to teach you a lesson, they sell it on at auction! Same should go for cars like this.

I would imagine that the scrappie is MORE than happy to sell it to you.

trouble is, with the shed's most uninsured drivers drive round in

its not worth the administration costs of selling a £50 fiesta or whatever

i suppose you could possibly make an exception for cars of larger market value, but where do you draw the line ?

dont think that audi quattro would have been worth much ...

Taking the car and crushing it is the only way to do it imo. I agree with MrLOL, most of the uninsured drivers drive around it sheds, and the only way to keep the cost to the tax payer down is to crush them..

I believe this is a case of damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Yep the government talks about being 'green' yet is willing to crush a car which is in perfect working order and condition? It makes no sense. By all means confiscate it from the owner but at least sell it at auction or something, so that it can continue to be used.

trouble is, if they dont have money for tax/mot/insurance. Chances are they wont have money for a roadworthy car.

it wont have been maintained and looked after.

who would buy a car like that. Can see the advert now "1 Audi quattro, never serviced or MOT'd thrashed round council estates every night. Police catching me in it forces sale ..." they wont sell for anything worthwhile. and how much money would need to be spent on a system to sell them at auction. Much cheaper and easier to crush them, and removes the chances they can buy the car back and continue driving uninsured.

after all, if its an old wreck, and they're the only one bidding on it. and offer £1 do you sell it on ?

there's allways that chance when you sell it on, it could end up back in the same hands.

Maybe, but not necessarily. By the way, I am a council tenant but I have a licence and my car is MOT'd and taxed :p (I do thrash my car on occasion though :D)

Just buy another car and drive it uninsured?
Because its impossible to drive a crushed car, yes they can buy a different car but the original cant end up back with them :p
yes im being difficult i appologise :)

Exactly. people driving with no insurance generally tend to not be the sort who really care about what they are driving as long as it physically works. I very much doubt that the majority of uninsured drivers are particularly interested in getting the car they originally had back.

They'll just buy another cheap runner and use that.....

If they sell it, who gets the money?

..............That's why they crush it, to avoid politics and human rights.
