Something odd going on - Amplifi & Virgin Superhub 2

Here's the situation:

Getting fed up of the bad wireless performance of the Superhub, I bought an Amplifi HD access point, which is currently connected via ethernet to the Superhub. I have disabled wifi on the superhub and just connect wirelessly via the Amplifi - I haven't got any mesh extenders connected yet (waiting to get everything working before adding them into the mix). Everything can connect to the internet fine, whichever way it connects (wifi or wired).

However, after setting it I'm having an odd problem:

I have a micro server and remote desktop into it. Its currently connected via Ethernet into the Superhub. I can remote desktop connect to it from another computer connected to the superhub via Ethernet without issue, but not from anything connected via wifi. I just get a message that "remote desktop can't find the computer "HomeServer". I assume there is some kind of subnet issue?

Isn't the Amplifi a router rather than a straight forward access point?

In your scenario I'd expect the Virgin hub to be in modem mode with the Amplifi connected to it. All devices (wired and wireless) would then connect to Amplifi (possibly via a switch if you need more ports).

Ah, I had assumed it was more of an access point. Does the amplifi have a firewall as well? If I put the superhub in modem mode I'll need that as well. Can't see anything in the settings....

Thanks chaps

Seems the options are continue with my current set up and put the Amplifi into bridge mode or transfer everything to the Amplifi and the superhub in modem mode.

The only consideration now is practical - can I easily route the ethernet cables in my study to where I want to put the Ampifi ...
