Hi all I have a 4870x2 graphics card, and in bf3, i have to have the A.I turned off to run it, so im only using half of the cards power.

if i was to change it to a single core type card what would you recomend please

thanks
ian

Resolution, cpu speed, budget? :)

I'd consider at the absolute minimum either a 6950 / 560ti, or one of the new 7800's coming out soon. Something like a 7850 should do the trick.

this is my spec

asus P5G41T-m LX INTEL G41 mobo
Corsair Vengeance 8gb ram
4870x2 graphics card
q6600 cpu with freezer 7 pro cooler
ocz zs 750w psu
windows 7 ult 64 bit

i normally play it at the 1024x768 and price wise, what ever i sell the 4870x2 and a little more, so im gussing at around the £150 mark

Pretty small resolution... I would imagine games will become more CPU bound then... have you overclocked your Q6600?

Including the shipping price...

YOUR BASKET
1 x XFX HD 6870 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £139.99
Total : £150.79 (includes shipping : £9.00).

Personally as arc@css said, I would try aim for a 6950/560 Ti though. However that goes over your budget. Cheapest one out of the two is this:

YOUR BASKET
1 x OcUK GeForce GTX 560Ti 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £159.95
Total : £170.75 (includes shipping : £9.00).

Orcvader's suggestion for the 480 is a great one, though for running just 1024 x 768 I would say either a 560 (non-ti) or 6870 should be plenty.

a 5870 is about the performance of a 4870x2 so this or above is what you need to spend. Realistically on your resolution the following cards should do just fine.

5850
5870
6850
6870
6950

Not to up on nvidea but a 560/560ti/470 should be fine. Make sure the card has 1gb of gfx ram (or more).

A 6950 would be my recommendation.

Also - a better screen as and when you can afford it! 1024x768 is quite a tiny resolution by modern standards, and when you switch to 1080p (or higher) you'll see a huge improvement in visual quality.
