Since I do not have an iOS device any more I have no need to keep itunes hanging around.

Is there any other decent media apps I should look at? I like the way itunes displays stuff, also would like one that could go and get album art and fix named etc, which itunes does not do unless the music was ripped from a CD

So what would peoples reccomendations be?

Kimbie

Tagscanner is a good one, and iArt for album covers - but that's not free.

There's probably a good free one out there somewhere though.

whats wrong with itunes ?

unless your music is tagged weird it should be able to get album art.

one problem you will have if you switch to something else is that all your album art will disappear because afaik itunes doesnt embed it into the files

@Panzerbjon - Going to go with being on a mac since i posted in a mac forum :)

"andy - Music is not tagged weird but it has doubled up a lot of stuff, Album artwork seems to be ok, but its getting everything renamed the itunes can't do unless its imported via a CD

I have to say that unless your music has been acquired by less than legal sources then iTunes 99 times out of 100 does a decent enough job of finding the track names and artwork. I know I've never had a problem with music ripped from CD's which I've bought, or from stuff purchased through iTunes/Amazon. There's no point look at anything other than iTunes if you're on a Mac. Also no need for the snippyness.

I use iTunes for a pretty big collection from various sources. It's always been a mess but while I was working away I had a boring evening so sorted through it all. It didnt actually take all that long, and then the automatic 'find artwork' feature filled in 95% of them.

I really like itunes, it feels very integrated, and works natively with airplay too.

Winamp is good for the radio stations, but in my opinion, thats about it. Never use it anymore.

iTunes looks very nice, but its library is a complete pile of poo if your media is on a network share.

In Windows Media Player, Winamp or many other media players, if you change your media the software automatically updates your library. iTunes? Nah.

In Windows Media Player, Winamp or many other media players, if you add a folder with a mixture of new and already added music they only add the new stuff. iTunes? Nah. It is quite happy to create a bunch of duplicates.

For iTunes to behave you have to put your media in the iTunes folder on your local system. If anyone knows a way to stop iTunes being retarded when you have your music on a share, I would love to know, as it is pretty much the only media player for OS X.

As for tagging, I use MusicBrainz Picard. Took me a little while to get used to it, but my collection is almost completely perfect. Was quite surprising how many tracks I had that were only partially tagged or missing them completely.

I have my entire library on a network device (DroboPro).

Move the entire iTunes library folder to the NAS and hold shift/cmd (forget which) when clicking on the iTunes icon.. navigate to the new location. Done.
