Yesterday I was at hospital with my father and we left pretty late. That meant I went shopping late. It was arounds 9pm I went into Asda to get some groceries.

Anyhow I saw some chap and thought nothing of it. The second time I saw him, he looked at me and I looked back, he then stopped me.

He shook my hand, confused a little, he then asked my name. He then asked me what I did, to which I replied to I'm a Software Engineering student. He was a suited up guy, seemed fairly smart. He said to me I look fairly smart for a student (dress wise), All I had one were some Replay Jeans, Converse Tee, Boots, Lacoste Coat. I thought to myself that's what an average 18 year old would think, not some guy who's about 40 years old.

Anyhow, he said he's a Doctor who apparantly has done Gallstone surgeries after I mentioned it about my father. He told me he's running an e-commerce project and he gave me his business card. He took my number.

I got a call from him today and he asked me if I was free to attend a meeting which at a Continental Suite situated in a Sports Centre in Sheffield. He told me to dress smartly (Shirt & Tie).

I genuinely don't know what to think.

Come on people of OcUK do what you do best. What do you think?

have you found out what the project is about?

maybe he was impressed by how you look and decided to start talking to you? does sound a little "too good to be true" though if you ask me so maybe it's a con :o

if some guy said that and gave me a business card and everything, then rang me up saying to come to a meeting then i would go. though maby you do have to wonder weather or not its a hoax or not. then again i havent herd anyhting bad about sheffield yet

He fancies you ;) .

But seriously i have been approached by a guy saying he's starting this amazing business etc.... and gave me a business card i quizzed him and came to the decision that it was infact.............

A PYRAMID SCHEME! Avoid before you get brainwashed!

Had this happen to me before, guy just stopped me in the street told me I looked smart and had potential. :D

Gave me a card for some business startup scheme, but I just threw it away as it seemed dodgy.

We are proud to be affiliated with Amway and their leading product Brands
Don't waste your time mate.

They try to make you feel important by getting you to dress up smart and going to a meeting. You'll hear an impressive motivational presentation which will make you believe you will get rich. But you won't. :p

Then they ask you to join etc...

whatever it is, it can't be as big of a scam as thoes guys who advertise supposed "discout electonics" on black and white photocopied fliers (very bad ones). then bundle you into that shop on the moor (fellow sheffield resident here :) ) where all the windows are covered and its just one empty room with a counter.....blah blah blah. can't be bothered to explain the rest, but its just like something of the 'real hustle'. i went in once as i was bored, dodgyest thing ive ever witnessed personally.

Aye probably something to do with Amway or the like.

"Simply put, we associate ourselves with Amway the pioneer in the industry. We welcome new people driven by a pioneering spirit. Entrepreneurs who strive to make a difference. Individuals who believe in helping people to better their lives."

Blatently a dodgy get rich quick scheme. I got an interview with one of these type of companies run by the cobra group not so long ago and it turned out to be door to door selling. But being in the office was like being initiated into a cult so cut and ran

Ah - these people are still doing the rounds then?
You have to respect them for one thing, they can look convincing.

When I worked for Tesco (as a second evening job many years ago) I was getting petrol after work one evening when I had a similar experience.
The "well dressed" chap comes to speak to me, chats for a little while and then mentions a project and a potential job and money.
I then got a business card and he took me phone number.
Next day I got a phone call from the guy - he wanted to come and speak to me more in depth about things.
This couldn't be a scam, I mean this guy was doing all the chasing.
So I invited him over - he spent an hour or so going over his "project" but still not really giving me all the information.
At the end of our meeting I was asked if I'd like to go to a much bigger meeting.

It was going to be held at this hotel, not far from where I lived.
There would be drink, refreshments, opportunities to meet other "members" and potential ones...
It was at this point I said my goodbye.
When he called to confirm I was going to be at the big meeting I said yes.
When he called the same day as the hotel meeting to confirm I said I'd had a change of mind and although he still managed to keep me talking for half an hour on the phone I didn't go and I was one less "sucker".

Walk away mate.
You wouldn't respond to a lottery winning e-mail.
You wouldn't help a man in Nigeria move some money through your bank account.
This guy WILL just be trying to get youj to a meeting that will be a pyramid scheme (called something else of course).
As somebody already in the scheme he needs you to help him make money - you however will see nothing.

Throw the card away.
edit - damn tabs. When I opened it originally there were only a couple of comments..

Sounds just like Herbalife -- there's a bloke at work who's been completely brainwashed by them. Thinks he's going to make loads of money where in reality he's just got crates of stuff that nobody wants.

Yes that's really weird because nobody over 40 would ever have a teenage kid would they?

/sarcastic snarl

I'd say he's trying to recruit you into a scheme where you will lose out and he will gain. I'd go along for any freebies but I'd not make any decisions on the day.
