Something swallowing up all of my net speed? (possible spyware?)

ok so i turned on my comp today and tried downloading a gaming movie from a website and suddenly i was getting a 6kb/s transfer speed though this is a bit odd, so tried a different mirror got the same on all of them! so i tried downloading a different programme and again getting the same slow transfer!

i know this is stupidly low as i'm on btyahoo 8meg broadband, i'm just wandering could it be a possible spyware infestation consumin all of my bandwidth?

hmm, task manager shows nowt using my network 0.01 utilisation during web browsing and msn :S so nothing out of the ordinary, will try my parents laptop see if it's my comp or the net connection i think!

speed tests report fine, just un-installed my a/v and installed a new one and everything a lot zippier so could have been the problem!
