Something to improve the wifi signal.

Can you get something to improve the wifi signal, for a workshop, that doesn't have to be plugged into the router. Something that can be plugged into the main socket to improve the wifi signal.

OK, well it's to get a better wifi connection to my phone in a workshop, I have a connection but would like it stronger and just wondered if I could plug something in to the wall sockets beside me

You see one of those wifi extenders. How does it work, is one all I need and do I have to punch in a wifi key of sorts.
