I remember a few threads a while back about this problem which was occasional lag spikes when using a wireless connection. The issue was found to be the Windows Zero Configuration which when switched off would stop the wireless from occasionally looking for other networks which would cause a temporary lag spike (which caused problems when gaming online).
It was found that by switching the WZC off it would stop this problem, however when restarting the pc windows wouldn't connect to the network so the WZc had to be switched on and then off again which was a hassle.
After doing some googling I have found a little tool that when placed in the startup will connect to the network and then switch off the WZC for some lag free gaming.
The tool is called "WirlessFiXP" for those that are interested.
Anyway its worked for me so I thought I'd post as it may be useful for others.
