Something you dont see everyday

Fox you still didn't answer my question

Do you honestly believe that "business" types aren't going to be a little bit miffed when they get picked up in an old, gold Merc?

Yes I do.

The only business type in this thread is Mark and he sees it the way we do.

To most people, that is some posh Mercedes-Benz.

W220s still serve the world over.

I think most people who would want something like this couldn't really care less what shape the headlights are, too busy worrying about whatever business folk worry about. Booze probably, if mark is anything to go by

Wrong side drive and wrong colour. Not east my friend!

You've still got India, Pakistan, even South Africa (ok it's not far east, but stil east-ish) plus a few other countries over that way, who knows where it'll end up :) Plus whilst Russia drive on the right, they have a lot of RHD vehicles over there.

Honestly when i used to travel a lot do you think i spent any time asking what colour my merc was going to be or what shape was it?

Its one thing buying a car its another sitting in one for 3 hours, as long as its not a shambles who cares.

Thats right limmos are exempt from the wrong side of the road drawback, it just dosent matter.

I did a bit of "jeeves" work a few years back, and at the time I remember being surprised how many of the fellow limo's parked around me were LHD.

Always seemed to be lots of LHD S600's at the Belfry every time I went......

Happy days..... :)

Well every single US limmo you see, which is 85% of limmos in London is LHD, i cant see what side the steering wheel is on bothering any buyers of that merc.

Another thought has just occurred to me, when i was travelling i never arranged my pick up cars myself anyway, one of the office girls did, and they wouldnt know an S class from an S bend bit of pipe.

I think if I booked my travel with admin and said "I want the W221 S-Class, not the W220 S-Class" they would look at me like I'm even more of a freak than I actually am.

gotta admit this car looks rank, and if i was in the position to have a limo budget it wouldnt be top of the list.

The colour is awful, I mean jewish racing gold for real! Why not just black like every other limo. If your going to be using it a lot then the car represents the owner in a lot of ways - why would you want that representing you?

The accomodation looks pretty good, but technology is so ridiculously old its practically unusable. That in addition to lack of tints - in a limo  For this kind of money and probably not a lot more your talking phantom, maybach, continental as other possible choices too? I guess it depends on whether you regularly travel with 3 other people....

If it were for someone who takes their security seriously then why no armour?

So that leaves one possible conclusion.... its probably going to be sold to a limo hire company which will get 200' odd thousand miles of decent rental from it. Still reckon the price is salty even then....

It won't be bought by and representing a single person. It isnt that sort of car!

Oh come on. It's a 2005 car, it's hardly 'practically unusable'. Nobody would use an integrated phone anyway!

How many Continental Flying Spur's have forward and backward facing accomodation? It's a customised vehicle, you cannot compare it to non-custimised cars.

Clearly it isn't for somebody who needs armour! What sort of a negative aspect is that?!

It'll almost certainly be sold to a large company for use as corporate transport or an executive hire company for spot hire for corporate reasons. It isnt suitable for chav limo hire and it wouldnt be one guys personal car either. I cant understand why people think it would be - there are other far better suited cars for personal use.

You phone to book corporate transport suitable for 3-4 executives and you dont say 'PLS MAKE IT A 2011 LOLZ', you get 'some luxury car'. It could be anything from the last 10 years, provided it's well maintaned, has the facilities and space required, etc etc.

Ah right, if something has been unsold for a year, it will never ever sell. True fact, that.

Alternatively because its such a niche product it has a similarly very niche market. It'll sell - eventually. The world isnt awash with people who need a £100,000 executive conference centre, but every so often the need arises.

You quite clearly have a future in used car sales with sales patter like that.

You've missed your calling ;)

This is the crux of it. Although i would not imagine that a large corporate would bother, this car would make an ideal purchase for a private corporate hire company.

What people seem to be missing in this thread is that its rental value is the same as that of a 2010 W221 based pullman, its simply a class of car. It is also brand new in terms of service and longevity for hire.

I is a third of the price of something newer, its a fantastic buy, even at asking price - to the right buyer.

If i think of all of the exec cars which i have seen over the years with my family, they can be anything from E-Class' built in the 90's, S's, right through to our regular flying spur. They are all the same type of booking. Frankly when getting picked up, you do not care whether you are in the latest E, S, Maybach, Flying Spur, as long as it is a comfy car which you can remain indifferent to, and sit comfortably.

What would, perhaps, bother me were I after such a car at such a price bracket would be the reason its stood for so long, how has it been stored for the entirety of those 5 years, and if, as the advert says, it has been started up & run for a short period weekly for 52 weeks, I'd be wondering about the state of the engine.

As I clearly am not be in such a situation, its neither here nor there alas. :(

I have been pondering this today though..... :o

Possibly it was a "lemon build"? - such vehicles exist - explaining perhaps that initial cancelled order? P.D.I. sheet that listed fewer things right than wrong? and subsequent storage due to lack of sale.....?

Or he cancelled the order after trying a Maybach 57 S which came out back in '05 iirc.... or is that too obvious? I bet it cost about the same back then?

I know which I'd rather have, I think..... :o
