Last night my CPU cooler (Arctic Cooling Pro 7)'s fan started going as fast as it could. I could hear this. Not a problem I thought. I checked on Task manager and the CPU was idle. About 30 seconds later PC knocked itself off. So I booted it up and it said CPU temperature overload or something along those lines. So I tried to get into BIOS, the fan still running as fast as it could and removed my 340MHZ overclock. (Just upped the FSB) So I took the FSB back down, saved it and then it knocked itself off again, still, the same problem.

I haven't looked inside the comp yet, as it is a pain to get it out. I just don't understand how one second it was fine and the next minute something is up.

Any ideas anyone? Is the CPU actually getting so hot it has to turn itself off, or is it just a bug?

CPU - Intel E8400
Mobo - Asus P5Q SE
Cooler - Arctic Cooling Pro 7 (Bought over a year ago)

Fixed. Absolute embarrassment. The heatsinc had come off. :(

Sorry guys, cheers for help anyway.
