This has happened to me both on Vista Home Premium 64bit and now on Windows 7 beta 1 64bit.

Sometimes when my pc has booted into windows I seem to have no internet connection. I can view my router page and it tells me I have a connection. But web pages do not display and my Windows desktop weather gadget only gives me the previous days weather. At the moment the only way I can resolve the issue is to restart Windows.

I tried disabling and re-enabling the adapter via Windows but it made no difference.

Does anyone know what the problem is and is there a quicker way of fixing it than restarting?

Ethernet driver is the latest.

Not sure if this helps but I've just turned my pc on for the first time today and it has done it again, however my antivirus software was able to connect and download an update.

might be worth pinging a known IP like google when you can't connect. If viruscan can connect and you can connect to the router then IP seems fine, it could be DNS. DNS client is a service under windows and it may well be that something is not starting that properly.
Check eventlog for service control manager messages under system log.
Also when it does break, try going into services and manually restarting the service and see if that works. If so you can create a logon script that'll do that for you each time you log on.
