So am in the process of a refresh of the lounge as having a log burner fitted in a couple of weeks.

Pretty much everything is changing. I've relaid a chunk of solid wood floor to fix the gap an old very nasty builder fitted gas fire place hearth stood in.
Added fused spur for Av sockets, the Av sockets, some speaker blank plates (cables run in behind but not connected yet), an external Cat6 lead which was just through a hole is now through a box and into a cable exit faceplate.

One of the last things was to sort out the wall the large sofa is against. Though I would take the opportunity to remove the old BT socket whilst there. This will be a quick easy job I thought!
Its not been on straight but also unused for years, found that the backbox (which is into breeze block) wasn't sunk so they clearly couldnt be arsed. The double socket next to it needed tidying up as well as the decorator seeing the mess the spark had made with the boxes clearly went hold my beer lets see how bad I can make half a tube of caulk look.
To find the double socket was also a mess as the spark also hadnt sunk that box properly, it sticks out about 6-7mm around about 50%, one side and the bottom. As it was up against the BT socket the double was actually on at an angle. Touching the wall one side but about the 6-7mm out the other side.

So now I am trying to decide between, tidying up but repeating the bodge on the double socket, pulling the whole thing off, chasing the back box what it needs to get it to sit correctly or adding a small spacer to the socket (can see some 9mm ones in screwfix but may not fit well)

Im 99% sure the new sofa which is a little longer than the old one is going to sit in front of the socket. So I am tempted by the spacer, but kinda also tempted to just fit it so that it looks the best from the angle you will see it from potentially.
Im pretty heavily inclined to not properly fix it as its not going to be seen.

God I had trades at times. So bloody lazy and unprofessional.

Phew feel better now :)

When we moved here we had a BT OpenReach engineer in to relocate the master socket and do some other socket/wiring stuff followed by an electrician to finish up with that side of it and the difference in standard of work was crazy - the OR guy's work was immaculate, the electrician was so half-arsed we cut our losses and tidied it up ourselves rather than have them come back and probably make more of a mess fixing it :s
