About 1month ago i finished my first main pc build. Its been going fine till iv started to have trouble starting it up. Somtimes it will start up fine but other times it will give a high pitch beep. It wont go away till you restart, then it will boot up.
Iv checked for any loose power connections, iv changed the graphics card and CPU cooler to see if they where the problem. No problems there. I cant replace the ram because its the only DDR3 i have. In my experiance last time i had a long continuous beep was when one of the connections for the graphics cards was dodgy and it didnt get any power. I dont think that is the case this time.

My spec
MSI GD65 P55 Motherboard
nVidia 9800GT ( check with a 8600GT aswell )
G.Skill Ripjaw 4GB Dual Channell DDR3 1600MHZ standard timing 8 8 8 24
Core i5 with Alpenfohn Brocken Cooler
Corsair TX 650W ATX

When i start it up and it goes beep again would it be ok for me to check points on the MB with a volt meter and post up here?

Any help would be appreciated. My dad is getting annoyed when the pc doesnt start up. He thinks the £700 iv spent was a waste!

If it helps any iv only had 1 BSOD. It happened during crysis on first day i built the computer. Never happened since.

Are you running at stock speeds?

Try running mem-test on your ram just in case you have a faulty stick.

Is the psu new or a hand me down from a previous system? Have you tried a CMOS reset?

I had a similar problem with my last build though never got to the bottom of it. It just went away! The only thing I changed at the time was to remove my IDE DVD RW drive, because the cable looked ugly

yeah one continuous beep sound means the gfx card is not powered. in my case it was cause i forgot to plug it in, in ur case it sounds more sinister :(

i agree with people who say check the psu and gfx power connections.

most likely it sounds like a problem with the psu being slow to start up and deliver power to the gfx.

Yes everything is stock speed, i have 2 profiles, one is standard and other is a overclocked processor at 3.2GHZ. Im useing standard till i figure out whats wrong.

both ram sticks ok, i took them to my friends house and check them on his. Worked fine!

d_brennen - the PSU is brand new. Yep iv tried the reset. I read that the OC genie can cause some issues and make some noise and iv switched that off incase.

As iv said before there are no loose connections, i have 4 connections what i can use for a graphics card. Iv tried all 4 and i get same situation.

Iv checked my motherboard in the places what allow a voltmeter. When it didnt start up the voltmeter had some sort of reading, when the pc is on it gave the same reading. 4.2 something. amps or volts. i think im gunna replace the powersupply and see what happens.
