Somone is reading my hotmail....But How!

do you know somthing we don't?

Yeah, the whole password changing back part is confusing. But as this person is snooping on my activity, by locking me out, they can't monitor what I am doing.

However by changing it BACK, I can only assume they either don't the new password, or it's totally unrelated! After all, if they could read the new one, they would just leave it as is and carry on logging in.

When my snooper mailed me, they did it from a Google account I had set up, so this was either to show they had control over that too or that they only have read access to my hotmail, otherwise they would have mailed from my hotmail.

There is your answer. Either the alternate email address which gets notified of password change is compromised or actually point to the hackers account. Change "alternate email address" in Options, wait one day, if it doesn't change back delete any "mobile credentials" there might be and change both security question and password in the same time. Hopefully that way, the hacker won't be able to revert to original password. If you use MSN, make sure not to switch it on with new password for few days, until you are 100% certain your hotmail isn't compromised anymore.

The password reset email is still set to my own, so no problems there. But no notification mail was sent to my inbox....

Thanks Monkeynut,

All seems to be ok so far, all logged in to both Messenger and Hotmail. No surprises there though, it's always the next day or when I log on later that the password changes. Never during the same session.

Send someone an email like.........
"i'll be at such and such a place at such and such a time, I'll have the briefcase with the £20,000, you better have the goods".

Then find a nice warm cafe near the appointed spot and sit tight.
(assuming they're not REALLY in china)

Better idea...."I'll leave the $VAST_QUANTITY_OF_CASH in a such and such bag, behind such and such bins", fill said bag with newpaper....with a large dog crap in the middle. Find comfy spot, wait.

Just a few suggestions for you

Firstly do a full virus and spyware scan i would suggest doing these via safemode with networking but cut the power to your router.
If you must do a fresh install of windows

Secondly you need to change your password, security question, and any email address's where confirmation is sent too.

To do this i would recomend logging into you account from another pc in another location. Local libary would be one place as access to the net from there is usually free or use a freinds connection to do so

Thanks sir les, much appreciated, will try this tomorrow morning when I can get to a net cafe.

I am going to leave my PC on and see if it logs out over night or if it stays on.
