I have my iPod touch syncing nothing with my mac.

I decided to start syncing the calendar, choosing just that option and only that option in iTunes.

iTunes promptly wiped all of my applications off my iPod.

Not happy.

Luckily its fairly new and I mainly lost game data (hence the thread title) but this has severely frightened me without a disk mode for the touch to do manual backups that iTunes can be so cavalier and destructive with its decisions.

I synced the events from iCal onto a mobile phone and everything was fine. A little different to what you did maybe, although it does show that you have to be careful what you do, and stresses the importance of backups I guess.

I was about to get slightly agitated and point out that itunes does the backup as well and had written over it with the version without the app data before I could do anything about it but then I remembered time machine, maybe I can restore an older version of the mobilesync data from Wednesday.

Popped home and tried it and it worked, most recent backup pre disaster was Tuesday but all app data appears to be recovered and as an added bonus nothing I've added since was removed.

I would kiss Time Machine if I could.
