ive just had to order a new motherboard and it comes with a Sonar X-Fi audio, ive never heard of this, is this a step up from the standard realtek chip found on mobos?

How will it compare to my PCI Asus Xonar DX?

It's basically an Xtreme Audio type software based processing solution. Cleaner than motherboard audio but not as good as your Xonar. The version of CMSS-3D headphone included isn't as good as a 'full' X-Fi.

The only situation where it will give you additional features over the Xonar are with EAX 3 and 4 games that don't work with DS3D-GX.

Edit: I note that it claims lossless Blu-Ray and HD-DVD playback. You can get that on Xonar DX or D1 with the appropriate PowerDVD software version (just not over digital).

Just realised there is no Xonar DX1. Are you sure that's what your card is called?
