I have the sonata 2 and the Samsung 500gig is creating a huming sound due to vibration on the panels. I know this because when i remove it while pc is running,it stops.
How is this possible with the rubber gromets etc... Thought this was studied + samsung hdd supposed to be quiet

ok so a friend of mine gave me the rubber gromet things from his Sonata 3. The case doesn't rattle anymore with these. They are not the same, mine are black and hard while his are white and lot more flexible. The thing is I don't think i can get these unless i buy a whole new case which is ridiculous.

Any advice?

Only elastic suspension can fully insulate vibrations.
And some Samsungs have had rather bad vibration level compared to others. (only SPCR's reviews are credible noisewise)

You could add bitumen mat (dense vinyl mat works also) to side panels which are thin in Sonata II.

I don't think i made myself clear.
The rubber gromets for the Sonata 3 hdds work but i have sonata 2 and they are different.

I don't know how to acquire these sonata 3 rubber gromets. I thinks its the same ones that are in the antec 180 etc...

Softer rubber insulates vibration better but unless you can get them from Antec I don't think there's much chances for finding them from elsewhere.

And mass damping works when vibrations aren't bad (=hard mounting) and also increases resistance against vibration of fans...
Worst resonances I've heard is from Sonata II and its TriCool fan.
