Sone to DB conversion?

How many decibels is one sone? For some reason some companies feel the need to use strange measurements.

a sone is just a measurement of loudness at a specific frequency. a decibel is just a logarithmic measurement of power. therefore i think a straight conversion is impossible as we dont know the frequency we are dealing with.

If it's for comparing the AC Coolers 1 sone is about 18dB and 0.4 sone is about 14dB. Their kit is pretty quiet.

Just checked wikipedia and it says 1 sone=40db.

at 1khz, you dont know what frequency is emitted from the coolers

Isn't khz a measurement of frequency? I thought sone was just a measurement of the amount you can hear a noise, as high noises are more annoying/intrusive than low humming ones.

yea but surely if you wanted to convert db to sones you would need to know the frequency range you were dealing with. as you correctly state..some frequencies are different than others in terms of the loudness we hear.
