Songs that aren't quite perfect...

What songs do you know that has everything a song could possibly have, but has one slight niggle that stops it from being flawless?

I ask as today I was listening to 'Wonderwall' by Oasis, and I couldn't deny what a very well written song it was, no matter how simple. However, the outro of two repeated choruses and 'You're going to be the one that saves me" is just such a bad way to end the song. It somehow makes it feel repetitive and I have realised I always skip the song from the second chorus before the repeats start.

Don't look back in anger however, now theres a perfect song

Anyway, what songs do you feel similarly about?

Nothing Else Matters by Metallica.

Awesome build up to the solo, really looking forward to the solo..... oh its finished already :/

If only they added on another 15-20 seconds :D

Agreed! There could have been an awesome solo there and it's disappointingly short.

Exactly the same for Queen's "The Show Must Go On", it cries out for a killer May solo but not so. The solo is still good, but not a master..

Otherside by Red Hot Chilis, builds up to the solo perfectly and it lasts all of about 10 seconds and is just the standard melody. Frusciante could do better than that!

The Who's Babs O'Reilly, probably my favourite intro to any song, but one of my least favourite extros. Why couldn't they have ended it at around 4 mins, before that silly carnival-esque bit :(

Not so much perfect, but songs that would be much better if:

1. They increased the last bar of the solo in 'Ize Of The World' by The Strokes to a decent amount.

2. Made a song around the last section of 'Fists Up' by The Blow

3. In 'Once Again' by Girl Talk they extrapolated the 'Bitter Sweet Symphony' and 'Wonderwall' bits into songs.

4. The entire Menomena 'Friend and Foe' album, it could be so amazing but every song has something (like a lack of coherence or consistent drum beat) that prevents it from being awesome (apart from 'My My').

so many songs are unfinished, its all about getting the right producer and mastering for the track as for "dark side of the moon" thats a polished album. and it shows.

Yes! I agree! I hear people talking about how awesome the ending for that song is all the time, but to me it goes into dancing pixie mode...

But you can't polish a turd :)

Yeah, because otherwise you end up with something like fool's gold.
;)

In English now? ;)

Fools Gold is poor really. You don't find many Roses fans that like it all that much.

I won't credit you for actually knowing about music though, just accept that you were looking for a rise :)

infact you can im afraid. if its all down to production and mastering then you can, if the engineering of the song ie, the way it was recorded is poor then no you can't polish a turd.
