Sonic booms in Cumbria?

I was in the Lake District recently and heard a sonic boom on two occasions. At least I'm fairly certain that's what it was - possibly explosions at a quarry or some such....maybe.

Anyway, I've been to the Lakes quite often (and the Scottish Highlands) and have seen more military aircraft than you can shake a stick at (my fave being a brief glimpse of a US B1B over Ben Nevis :eek: ), but I've never heard a sonic boom - I was under the impression they're not allowed to go supersonic over land?

I was wondering if maybe it was the Eurofighter being put through its paces? Anybody seen one or heard anything about this? Tried Google with no luck.

When I lived upt *** north I used to hear aircrafts with sonic booms all the time. A few times daan sarf too.
 
I`ve seen & heard loads of jets up here but i have never heard a boom, then again I doubt they would go supersonic over a city would they?

Although a Tornado flew over me the other day though out on the Solway coast and it was so low (i`m talking like 50-100ft ) I never heard it till it went right over my head , it was soooo loud I nearly fell of my bike and **** a brick :eek:
 
4 military helicopters flew over our house on Friday..... not got a clue what they was doing. 2 of them had missile pods while 2 others looked like transports.... all 4 was the same type of helicopter tho....like the ones you see in "nam" films

I saw one yesterday flying over our village a couple of times. Also saw a police copter saturday night hovering over our area for about 10 minutes looking for someone. Put me in the mind of being in South Central with all the police sirens and the chopper flying around with his spotlight :D
 
We get tornados training hawks plenty of chinooks all the time too, hear plenty of booms but their the huage ass artillery on salisbury plain
 
Got woken up this morning by a fighter opening the taps around RAF Notholt. We never usually get fighters round here, let alone them going so bloody fast.
