I would like something to listen to my music on wirelessly in my room. My mate showed me his Sonos One which I was impressed with but I am not sure if there's a better option out there. My music is all in my iPhone library. I don't use any subscription services like Amazon Music, Apple Music or Spotify. I also have no interest in multi room now or in the future.

My budget is around £200.

FYI play ones dropped to circa £134 around Christmas, not sure on prices now. I dont know about alternatives however!

Sonos uses Wi-Fi because Wi-Fi doesn't have the data transmission limits that plague Bluetooth. However, if you can live with the quality taking a bit of a hit then there are tonnes of Bluetooth speakers within your budget.

Coming back to Wi-Fi, Bose Soundtouch 10 is comfortably inside your budget and it uses both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. You have a choice then of a simple BT pairing, or you can download the Bose Soundtouch app for free and access music on your iOS/Android phone to stream over the house Wi-Fi network. Unlike the Play 1/Play One speakers, Bose include an AUX jack socket for connecting line level sources too. Sound quality isn't quite on a par with the Sonos Play speaker, but the extra flexibility is very welcome. Oh, and it looks like it comes with a handheld remote too. That's useful if you just want to mute the sound quick to take a call.

Thanks for the advice. In the end I just went out and bought a Sonos Play:1 for £138. Really impressed with it for the price. From listening to my music either on my £15 Logitech PC speakers or in my very noisy car it's great.

I did consider the Bose and I might come to regret not having a line-in but it just doesn't look as good as the Play:1 :o. Same goes for the Play:3 and Soundtouch 20 no doubt they sound a lot better but they're pretty ugly.

In the end - What do you mean, "In the end" ? You posted your question at 3:56pm. Two and half hours later you're all sorted. What's up..... was the 40 minutes waiting for a couple of replies just too long for you? :D

I know you said "Quick question", but WTF bro? Did you wait all of all of 5 minutes for a reply before deciding that the world was ignoring you, or were the keys in the ignition and you were sat with your coat on? Jeez. Was it worth even bothering posting a question

ha ha you're right the question seems pretty pointless now. I would normally deliberate for days before making a purchase but just felt like being spontaneous. And in fairness the list of options was rather small.

Thanks for taking the time to reply anyway.

Oddly the Play3 doesn't sound much if any better than the Play1 I often find myself preferring the sound in our kitchen dinner from two Play1's (not in a stereo pair) to that of the Play3 in out lounge. If I was buying again from scratch I'd get two Play1's over a play3 every time the play1's sound fantastic for the size and price.
