Sonos Play 3 as Soundbar

Hi All,

I had been using the bundled sound bar that came with my Sony 50w829 but always had it mounted on screws into the front edge of the wooden TV stand because the height of it obscured the picture and IR receiver if it was sat in front of the TV. We’ve just replaced a lot of the furniture including the TV unit with some oak bits and don’t want to screw into it.

The picture starts at 60mm from the surface of the unit which means finding a decent sound bar to fit is proving difficult.

We watch everything through Apple TV so was thinking of putting a Sonos play three in the top spot where a DVD player would normally go.

Two questions:

Has anyone got any other ideas that will fit with what I have?

Would I be able to add 2x Sonos One to give tear surrounds at a later date like you can with the PlayBar and Beam?

Pic of the TV unit:

AFAIK, a Play 3 isn't designed to work with Play 1s as rear surrounds. Play 3 doesn't have a line input either. How would you get your signal in to it?

Bluetooth/Airplay. I’ve since transferred my old Sony soundbar to the kids play room and the Apple TV works nicely with that over Bluetooth controlling the volume etc.

Wall mount the TV with the soundbar underneath it so it sits the right height above the unit. Looks nicer and is a simple sleek solution.

That's a decent idea actually. I was just typing a response saying that I wanted to keep the unit and then re-read your post. I'll pose the idea to the boss.
