Has anyone ordered one or considered one? I am thinking of getting one for my bedroom and using 2 play3s for surround.

Bit put off though that apparently the bass is poor? Not really keen on having to spend another 500 or so for the bass part.

(I already have a Sonos network with 5 devices)

Sure, will set it up tomorrow or Saturday. My boss ordered one too. We are both excited

Did you fork out for the SONOS sub too?

I'm keen to know your thoughts as I have my eye on one too for an up and coming house move. I'd be interested to know how well it works from an IR remote (such as a Harmony) for general TV watching.

Not yet, it's for my bedroom, I have a decent AV setup in my lounge which I love to watch the big films on (RX-V3067, Mission 79# series speakers all around with sub, Vt30 etc). I did have a Play:5 in the bedroom which i will find a place for.

I am thinking though of sticking 2 Play 3s on my bedside cabinets to have surrround. I am sure I will end up getting the sub as I am a sucker for Sonos. For me Sonos is just superb. My favourite part is I have ceiling bathroom speakers conencted to a connect:amp, so means I can continue listening to football etc whilst taking a dump (!)

I am setting it up tonight, will test out some good movie soundtracks and FLAC to see how it sounds. I spoke to a guy who has one and he loves his, so looking forward to it.

Dude, sky + means you can pause the footie while you answer nature's call. Nothing worse than something exciting happening and popping a 'roid trying to finish the deed!

I hope your sonos sounds decent. Would be interested to know how easy it is to integrate the play 3's in as wireless surrounds.

Nice one.

Are you using it in combination with a Harmony remote by any chance? Just wondering how it performs for general TV (non SONOS streaming) functionality. Responsiveness of volume and power commands etc.

Good to hear its a worthwhile purchase.

Just the TV remote at the moment, it is very responsive with that, and amazing to setup. No faffing with codes, it leads you through in the app.

I am wall mounting it this morning and will take pics. I really like it, think it's a worthy purchase.

I am actually tempoted to pick up another Play 3 today, put my other Play 3 in bedroom for surround, and move the Play 5 to kitchen

is it real surround sound? or is it emulated surround?

e.g. does the sound coming out from the back speakers differ from the front?

i like the idea, but can it produce real 7.1 surround as well? thinking of making a cinema room in the future and would prefer a wireless setup if it offers proper surround and not emulated.

It's up to 5.1, and meant to be real 5.1. I am using it in my bedroom.

In my lounge I prefer a more "mack daddy" style setup :P

so i take it the optical lead only plugs into the playbar, then is it the paybar that transmits the audio to other speakers, or does it connect to your home network through ethernet or wi-fi and then transmit through that?

i like the idea of this type of system, but how good is the quality for the price?

thats right, optical from TV to the soundbar. It has its own proprietary network "SonosNet". For music I know the highest it can transmit is 1411kbps (i.e. CD WAV). I have 6 zones all no problems and it does it uncompressed.

Given it does optical it will therefore not be able to do DTS HD etc I assume.

It cant do DTS at all let alone HD, I'm looking at one as i have a sonos setup and im about to downgrade my amp and floor standers setup.

Im tempted by it still so would be interested in your thought on it esp against a play5.

It's def better versus Play 5 but I wouldnt substitute my AV setup in my lounge for one, mostly because I love HD soundtracks.

I do love a bit of HD audio and would miss my quads but to be fair we watch more normal TV than films these days and am struggling to find a nice tv stand that will take a full size amp. Since we moved here 4 years ago i have sold the sub, the centre and rears have never been connected so i have a very good 2.0 system basically - can save a lot of space and wiring and have a happy wife!

I have a ZP80 feeding the amp at the moment so dont want to lose the Sonos in the room hence the soundbar - may go for a Yamaha soundbar and keep the zp80 but looking at the options at the moment!

I've a fairly basic 5.1 (Wharfedale MS-100 + Pioneer VSX-522) in my teeny tiny living room that I may get rid of and put funds towards a Playbar. That said, I think for the money I could get a better sounding 2.1 setup and miss out on the Playbar. My amp will work with AirPlay so don't really need a Sonos component in the living room. I have a Play:3 in the hall which I like very much indeed :) I know if I bought a Playbar I would then want the sub because when it comes to HT, the sub is super important.

For some reason, Sonos devices are just so appealing :)
