Hey all on Thursday after only having for 5 months my Canton dm55 seemed to have issues with a crackling noise coming from it and cutting out. i changed the Optical cable and few other things and that didn't stop the issue. So managed to take it back to Richer sounds which was very helpful and said they would send it off for repair. But after only having 5-6 months. I shouldn't be sending it off so early for repair. So they said if they cannot repair it i could have a refund or put the £330 to something else. So i was wondering what the Sonos playbar would be like we do not own any other sonos but wanted something decent for music and films and the playbar seem's to get good reviews does anybody else own the playbar?

I have a Playbar, as well as quite a few other Sonos speakers. The playbar, imho, is a very decent soundbar and fits very well into the Sonos system or just as a simple soundbar. It can generate a surprising sound, in terms of depth and spatial positioning, as well as having plenty of volume - I also have the Sub on our system, which adds excellent low frequency to the mix, but the playbar is very capable on its own also.

Of course, the Playbar is not one for the true purists, apparently.......But, as a soundbar for one's TV etc., I don't think that it can be faulted except, perhaps, on price. There are system benefits to adding other Sonos to a Playbar; you can pair up a couple of other Sonos speakers as rear surrounds, for example......or, access the sound fed to the Playbar on other speakers in the Sonos network.

I think the Playbar is a good product, but for the price you could certainly get much better. Unless you plan to buy into the whole Sonos ecosystem, then I'd be looking at other stuff.

Sonos are like Apple, it's generally only a good idea to buy if you are planning to invest in and stick with the ecosystem long-term.

If you are also into TV and movies would also consider the Philips Fidelio B5 soundbar with detachable wireless surround speakers.

Sonos also has a well-known DTS issue, ie: it doesn't have it.

As others have said get the Playbar if you plan to buy into the ecosystem.

I would say it's one of the best soundbars out there, maybe at 8/10.

When you consider the additional Sonos features it goes 10/10.

Make sure your TV can pass through 5.1 audio from HDMI to optical.
