Sonos Playbase vs Hifi

I'm considering replacing my hifi system which consists of an old Yamaha receiver and 2 Dali Zensor One speakers.

Current set up sounds pretty good for music and movies alike, but lacks the surround sound experience. I could expand the set up, but not without trailing wires around, cba to hide them under the carpet!

I like the idea of the Sonos Playbase and pairing it to a couple of Play:1 for wireless surround sound.

Whats peoples thoughts on this?

Your Yamaha / Dali system will have better fidelity for music, but if your priorities are now for surround sound, and having rear speakers without wires, then Sonos sounds like it would fit the bill.

I've got a two Sonos setups in my house. A Beam, 2 Play 1's with a Sub in living room and a Beam and 2 One's in bedroom Works well, music via Spotify sounds great and movies and TV shows sound much brilliant with the rear speakers, really bring the action on screen alive. Everything just works, setup through the app was a breeze and it's girlfriend friendly. The built in Alexa has linked to my smart devices.

There are caveats though, Sonos is expensive (Over £600 for the sub), it does Dolby Digital 5.1 but not DTS, you need to either use a dvd player/console that can convert DTS to Dolby (Xbox One S does over hdmi, PS4 can only do it over optical) I've bought an audio extractor and embedder for the living room so I can get Dolby out of my PS4 with DTS blurays whilst retaining the ARC connection of the Beam to my TV). Streaming apps like Netflix use Dolby so work fine.
