As have alluded to in other thread on here, am going to be heading down the SONOS route for my multi room music in my new gaff, but have a quick question?

As I will be getting networking set up was going to have the Play unit for the kitchen wired into the wall and was wondering do I still need a bridge or will this act as the access point?

Future additions will be two Amps for both master bath and en-suite and then also another Play (1 or 3 can't deiced yet) for living room / bedroom / garden

If you hard wire you don't need a bridge, iirc, all the bridge does is create it's own wifi network inside your house.

I'm not sure if the bridge has any other fuctions, and how not using a bridge will impact on the other Sonos functions i.e. playing internet radio / spotify etc.

Imho, wiring sonos into the wall is a waste of time, better to use as was designed, save taking up network points and run the system using the bridge.

You only need one Sonos device, bridge/speaker etc, physically wired with a cable, that device creates the Sonos wireless network for all the other devices . I've never used a bridge and Napster/Deezer/Internet radio have all worked fine except Radio 5 Live that wouldn't stream a live football commentary. I think it thought I might have been in another country? This was some while ago so may not be an issue now. I'm sure the bridge would have not made any difference.

Just done some further reading and you only need to use a bridge if your router isn't in a place you want music.

So like you say, long as one component is wired into the network then that makes the sonos wifi mesh.

Had no idea, i've just used a bridge all the time for a 4 unit system.
