Sony 27inch LCD TV

My parents just gave me thier old 27 inch sony LCD tv which has developed a smudge/smear (Black) which gets worse the longer the tv stays on. It looks a bit like a blur/smoke similar to if you press an LCD screen but its not. Its about 1/3 way down from top and, at its worse is about 8 inches long and variable to an inch wide.

Anyone have any idea what it is, how to fix etc?

Sounds like you need a panel replacement.

When was the TV bought and do you know if there is any time left on the warranty?

It may be worth getting in contact with Sony (or a sony authorised repair shop) and get a quote for a out-of-warranty repair.

nothing left on warranty, its quite old - shame, may not be worth it but will at least give them a call tomorrow.

leave it running over night or as long as you can. Iv'e had some good results using it on older TV's and monitors. But as I said you have to leave it running a long time. I don't know whether it will help with your problem but it's free and worth a try. Good luck
