Sony A580 upgrade to Sony A??

I’ve been using my A580 for quite a while now and with a big birthday approaching, I’m giving some consideration to a body upgrade. While I know that I have very much not reached the limit of the body, I am thinking of using the birthday as an excuse for a possibility of splashing some of my own and family cash on a new body. I would like to stay with Sony as I have some investment in the range despite getting the body for free a few years ago.

I’ve been looking at the A77ii which if I have read correctly is still crop sensor but their top of the line model in crop format. I have thought about moving to FF, but I’m not 100% sure on my lenses all working without issue in terms of vignetting etc at certain focal lengths.

The lenses I am most concerned about are my 10-20mm Sigma F4.5 (bought) and my 150-500mm Sigma (given) , I also have Sony 50mm & 85mm (both bought) along with a few older Minolta lenses that I picked up 2nd hand, and finally the HVL-43AM flash from Sony.

So does anyone have any recommendations, or should I just stick with what I have, save my money and wait a while. Current shutter count on my camera body is just under 35.5k, so it should have a good bit of life left in it.

EDIT: I've mainly been doing some landscape stuff, but am also looking at doing some night photography with stuff like light painting and wire wool etc. if that helps.
Thanks

What are the limitations of your current camera? where do you feel you need better performance, where is it holding you back or restricting your potential?

That will give you the logical answer on if you should upgrade and what to. Of course if your heart says you want a new toy then you might just have to following it.

the 10-20mm wont work on FF but the other lenses are OK.

In all honesty, I probably haven't reached the limitations of it, and am just thinking, big birthday, I should get something nice for it, along with new / shiny toy syndrome. Realistically, I could probably just look for stuff that is a lot cheaper like some new batteries as my 3rd party ones are starting to not hold charge so well (in my mind anyway).

I'll definitely hold off on the FF then as the 10-20 i only bought last year.

Thanks for taking the time to answer. :)

If you want to buy a new camera related toy I would invest in more glass, filters, tripod, flash etc.

If a new camera wont add much value to your photography then you will just watch it deprecate in value without taking advantage of it. There will always be better cameras coming along in he future.

Definitely, especially on the glass front, a faster lens or two would not go amiss. As you say, there will always be a newer toy to buy further down the line. Thanks again, I figured an unbiased opinion would help and it has.

Stick with your A580 would my advice unless you specifically want some of the newer stuff the A77 offers. In IQ terms the A580 is still a very strong performer so don't think you are missing out on much there.

As DP has stated get some glass, why not try the world of macro with a dedicated Macro lens as insect season is nearly upon us and there is nothing quite like seeing spider eyes through the viewfinder!

I actually remembered last night I have a 90mm Macro somewhere in a box that I've not unpacked after moving, (another gift from my kind uncle) so I will get that out and give it a go. :)
