I have the a6000 and love it,moved from a Nikon D7000 with 5 lens and couldn't be happier with the move.

the only downside is the number of lens available, there isn't a lot compared to a dslr so bear that in mind.

I think you'd prefer a model with a viewfinder, however small, for spotting.

Some good ones:

Sony a6000, a6300
Panasonic G7, GX80
Olympus OM-D E-M10 II

However, the problem is the lenses. I'm guessing you'll require a telephoto of some description.

For the Sony you have a couple of options: E 55-210mm (cheap but perfectly okay), FE 70-200 F4.

For the Panasonic/Olympus, you have more options, and due to the crop factor they're longer in equivalency: Panasonic 100-300, Panasonic 45-150, Olympus 75-300, and a few other more expensive ones.

However, perhaps the best option for you would be a decent bridge camera? It'll be much cheaper than a mirrorless + decent telephoto.

Options include the RX10 (the original going to 200mm, the newest model to 600mm equivalent), the Panasonic FZ1000 (400mm equivalent) and the Canon G3 X (600mm equivalent). These all have a 1" sensor, but they perform quite well in most circumstances.
