Need some advice please guys. I bought an AS100VR last year with a few accessories. A few months later I had it on a monopod swimming in the sea and a big wave knocked the camera off the monopod and I never saw it again.

The AS100 attachments use a normal screw in type mount, the same as normal cameras. I never replaced it and am now thinking of cutting my losses and buying a GoPro Hero 4. I still have all the accessories for the AS100 but I think that the attachment/mount isn't as good as the GoPro bolt through attachments.

What are your thoughts on this? Should I get another AS100 as I still have the remote screen, case, headband attachment etc, or just flog it all and get a Hero4? Are the mounts and attachments more secure than the screw in type for the AS100? Cheers.

I think the Gopro is overall better camera especially if you want to grade your videos.

The AS100 is sharper, more detailed, has better colours, but has more distortion, rubbish menus, and well is a Sony. Saying that I've got one and I think the standard tripod mount is way better than the Gopro mount, plus if you really want Gopro attachments you can get a cheap adapter.

In answer to your question, if I didn't already have an AS100 and didn't have a Sony Mirrorless camera I wouldn't buy an AS100. As it is though I'm actually going to get a second one to replace a Polariod Extreme HD.

I've just bought a Sony fdr x1000v ,but surely the biggest advantage of the Sony is steady shot the go pro does not image stabilize ,but I really wish the sony would make timelapse like the go pro ,there are good comparisons YouTube mark hawk cam is good ,to me the Sony looks better quality although a bit to much fish eye in 4k ,I probably need pro dad or blue fx to correct in post ,

Also the Sony is cheaper currys now sell 295 v 335

Great thanks :) the only problem I have now is that my old waterproof cases won't fit. Also found out theres an AS200V. Need to decide this weekend what to do but I may just stick with the AS100V or go with the AS200V if they're the same dimensions.

Thanks for the help guys, ended up buying the X1000V. I'm going to use my old LR1 remote and some of the other accessories. I also bought the dive door and suction cup off the Sony store using a 20% discount. One thing I do like is that you now only need to change the door for diving instead of the whole case. It's just a shame that it's so expensive. Can't wait to get my hands on it!

Sony accessories are hideously expensive. I lost the lens cap from my FE 35mm 2.8 lens and Sony want over £100 for a new one. I can buy a third party one for £1.99 - Crazy.

Anyway rant over, congrats on the X1000V it looks a great bit of kit from all the videos I've seen.
