I just got round to installing my Sony BDU-X10S as I've had my case apart for a while for painting. Stuck the drive in, connected it to SATA1 and powered up. First problem is that i see the card doesnt show up in bios. Ok i thought lets see what windows says. Get into vista and although the device is ther, it is recognised as a cdrom device in hardware manager and an HDDVD rom in explorer. When i go to open the drive to insert the installation disc, the tray wont open no matter if i press the button or use the windows menu to eject drive. Now the next problem is that i dont have a dvd-rw or anything else installed at the moment other than the bluray. I tried making an image of the installation disc with poweriso on another comp and running that but it wont let me install unless from a cdrom drive according to the warning message that appears.

Has anyone else installed one of these drives and can say whether what i'm experiencing is normal before the software is installed? Or else is my drive just a candidate for RMA?

I've tried different sata/power cables and ports but the tray still wont open. The only thing i can think to do at the moment is to put the dvd-rw from my other pc in and try that but i really dont want to cause it's a dell and is a nightmare to take apart.

I must be the unluckiest person in the world with optical drives. In my life i've only ever had one that worked!

any help is hugely appreciated as i'm losing the rag a bit here.

Cheers

when you installed it did the tray open fine before the software was installed can you remember?

Ah well looks like i have another one for my optical drive graveyard:(

Thanks for the quick reply.
