Ive just bought one of these TV's to replace my sammy 32'' but thinking i may have made the wrong decision going for the 46'' , and should have gone for the 40'' with only sky SD as my tv source.

Ive not recieved the tv yet....Does anyone have the same lcd or similer size with only sky sd as the source?

If so whats the quality like?

Also im only about 8ft away from the tv.....Which i think maybe a little too close for this size of tv and may be too pixilated on the 46'' panel.

What do you think guys?

Thanks

Hi. I've got a 46ins Samsung 1080p 100Hz LCD in my living room. Had it a week and it's too big really for my standard sky digital. Pixels real easy to spot. I'm sat same distance as yourself away. 40ins would have been plenty, not to mention several hundred quid cheaper! Got it now though. Must be the only bloke on earth who didn't realise i had to pay to get Sky HD. Total noob.

Thanks for that. In fairness, i changed some settings earlier today and made the picture a lot better but done that as well. Was getting terrible picture during fast moving scenes, like watching youtube in fullscreen mode. Solved it now.

for the best picture, turn everything off! processing never ever does anything usefull on a tv. noise reduction, range control, dynamic backlight control, its all a waste of time. infact the only think i have turned on on my 40w2000 is the wide colour gamut.

If Sky SD is the main thing your watching and you haven't got the TV yet, I would strongly consider going for a Plasma. Unless you really want an LCD for gaming etc.

Got a 46x3500, HD etc is absolutely jaw dropping, (1080p/24) but SD is a bit so-so to be honest.
I only have a 40" X3000 but my SD picture from Freeview is fantastic. The quality from the 5 main channels (BBC1, ITV etc) are sometimes comparable to DVD quality if not better.

Here's what Swordfish looks like on Freeview

Yeah could really do with the LCD for gaming.

Ive seen a 40'' verison of the same model and thought the sky sd quality was good , as good as my sammy 32'' which took an age to get the picture decent....which im pretty pleased with now but wanting somthing a little bigger....which is why i went for the sony.

Just unsure on whether ive gone too big for SD viewing.

Just a thought..ive bought it from ******-******.....Do you think if ive opend it they'd allow me to return it for a refund:confused:

Thanks

Get rid of the company name, its a competitor.

But yes you can return it, its written in the T&Cs

If under the 7 working days “cooling off period” you wish to have the goods returned, we can offer collection for the return of the goods at cost to you, alternatively you can arrange your own method of returning the goods to **** ****. Please be aware if arranging your own return that you will need to take out adequate insurance on the goods should they be damaged in transit. Please note, the minimum direct costs for a collection return will be £35.00 upwards dependant on the product.

that could well depend on the t.v set though...i only have dnr set to low on mine and its made a world of difference.....picture looks great on most SD content now.
atm i couldnt be happier with the picture quality and i wasnt used to anything but plasma's in the past.....even though tbf the plasma's were not tweaked.

According to the distance selling act they arent legally allowed to charge a restocking fee.

http://www.oft.gov.uk/shared_oft/business_leaflets/general/oft698.pdf

If you want the consumer to return the goods and to pay for that
return, you must make it clear in the contract and as part of the
required written information – see paragraph 3.10. If the consumer
then fails to return the goods, or sends them at your expense, you
can charge them the direct cost to you of the return, even if you
have already refunded the consumer’s money. You are not allowed
to make any further charges, such as a restocking charge or an
administration charge.

he has a sony like mine. trust me lol. DNR on the sonys smears the image even more on SD content. its useless lol.

James, I read in another thread how you agree plasma is better PQ especially with SD but you admitted to owning an LCD. Can you remind me why you went LCD? I'm not far of buying myself a 40" and also thinking of a Sony LCD as people say the SD on them is quite acceptable.
Sorry, bit of a hijack there.

To the OP, seeing as you've now ordered the thing you may as well set it up and decide what you think of it. Chances are you'll be happy and just keep it

bascically because at the time (dec2006 believe it or not lol) i coldnt place enough confidence in plasma regarding screen-burn and image retention issues. i went with lcd because the primary use at the time (and still is) was the tv being connected to either my pc or a console. i didnt fancy the idea of burning the hud of a console game or my windows desktop in to my brand new plasma so i went lcd.

given the choice now, i wouldnt make that choice again. it'd be plasma every time. dont get me wrong Sd is quite acceptable. for an lcd my sony is actually pretty good. its not plasma-good by far from unwatchable and ive no problem with it.

Although I do watch Bluray and I have a Sky HD box (don't subscribe, just use it for the free HD channels) I too went for the 40" LCD over anything bigger.
Cost wasn't the issue - I paid £1000 for my Samsung LE40F86 and I'm extremely happy with it.
With that kind of budget I could have gone 42" or 46".
However a lot of my viewing is still SD and that is where I feel the larger screens do suffer.

I spent a long time looking at a lot of screens before I made this purchase - it was going to be a big investment and I didn't want to make the wrong choice.
I wanted 1080p so that really put me in the LCD department.
Whilst looking at all the screens it was always the Sony & Samsung displays that stood out from all the rest.
I'm not going to start a "mine is better than yours" thread - it was just an observation after going to many places and looking at many displays.

In the end I just liked this Samsung - but it was certainly a close run thing with Sony and I'm pleased I went for 40" over the larger options.
