Ok, I have been looking around the internet etc and I noticed the Sony KDL-32W4000 as a possible pc/hdtv of choice.

However, I have been looking around the internet and have seen that even though it is a full HD 1080p tv its maximum resolution for a monitor is 1368 by 768.

Can anyone clarify whether this is true?

I have always thought if the tv was full 1080p it was capable of displaying 1920 x 1080 with a PC?

You'll probably need to use a HDMI connection, using a DVI to HDMI cable from your PC

Yeah, according to some people on the internet they say they can only get 1368 x 768 via HDMI. I am trying to figure out if this is true. People have also checked the manual and it states that resolution not 1920 x 1080.

Not a particularly good telly according to "Which?", they seem fond of the Panny's (you can pick up a TX32LXD80 for around 350 notes if you know where to shop - especially with the sales now on everywhere).

The res is the lower of the two, but like most HDTV's in can accept 1080p and then downscale it. If you want True HD then the Panasonic TX32LZD80 or 81 (with freesat) are 1080p, but around £150 more expensive.

As you sure as I have the 40" W4000 and its does 1920x1080 via the pc through hdmi & vga. Also does full res via component.

The 32" model I was talking about has been advertised as full 1080p HD but when connected to the PC (as well as saying in the manual) it is said to only do 1368 x 768.
This is what I am trying to find out from people who own the TV.
