Hi All, I hope you all had a great Christmas with lots of gadget pressies.
My question is, I have a new Sony tv which I connected to my router which all seems to work ok, right at the bottom of the network list is my pc but I want to know if I can connect to it because when I try it just says connection error please try again, do I have to set up my router if so How? my router is the Sky sagem thingy which is just crap lol, any help will be truly appreciated as I am a total noob with networking..Many thanks and have a great New Year..
Regards, Wayne..:D

What are you trying to do with it?
model of tv?
Trying to browse your tv?lol
Trying to browse the web?
Trying to watch youtube?
More details mate

if it says network error on your bravia 3 TV dont do what i did and not push the ethernet cable in fully it goes in along way down. try the network test in the options it will tell you where the problem lies

if it says cable isnt connected its probably what i ,mentioned.

if it gets an IP its not your router rejecting it.

you dont need to do anything special to get it to work.

Hi, Sorry for lack of details  The tv is connected to the internet and I can view all content but on the network page of the tv the very last option has our main pc showing and when click on that thats when it comes up with the error, I think its there to browse media that is stored on the pc but I have to make it a server or something for it to be able to read the content, from reading snips on the net, many thanks for coming back to me though. Happy New Year..:D

Regards & Thanks, Wayne..:)

Yes, you need to make the PC a DLNA server. From what I've just googled you may be out of luck if you're still on XP. Vista, I dunno but W7 should just do it via its 'Play to' feature. I use a dedicated NAS with built-in DLNA server so have no personal experience of this under Windows.

I've got a Bravio EX403 pulling music/photo's from a XP PC using Media Player as the DLNA server, so that certainly works.

So how is this done please I am using Vista Ultimate 64bit, I must admit it is baffling the hell out of me lol.. Many thanks for the input folks :)

I have a EX403 working with XP, it works the same as an XBOX

On XP go into windows media player, right click the bar at the top and go tools -> options -> library -> configure sharing -> tick 'Share my media' then ur TV should popup in there & pick allow.

I'm assuming it's similar on vista but then again :S

One thing to note the TV has limited file type play back, most of the vids I have dont work :(
Video: AVCHD, MP4 (AVC) or MPEG1 format
Says in the manual

Oh good. In that case it's worth plugging the homeplug switch in downstairs and attaching my Bravia and recorder. I've never been happy with the DLNA server on the NAS.
