Hi - I was going to buy LG C1 for mostly Netflix but some PS4 or PS5. My friend bought the SONY BRAVIA XR55X94JU instead after comparing them as he said it’s brighter as it’s LED and has more natural colours than Samsung which he found to be too bright. Also no burn in concerns but the screen saver will deal with that on LG.

anyone got experience of both? What do you think?

Well he is right, but obviously it's preference. Rtings.com i think have that model tested so should give you an idea. You can do a direct comparison on there too.

Unfortunately it's hard to say how good the new anti burn tech is atm as it's still fairly new ~1-3yrs old depending on model.

watched the comparison today. The only remaining doubt I have about the C1 is whether I’ll be disappointed by the brightness.

I'd say unless you have had previous monitors/TVs turned right up on brightness, then it'll be fine. My B1 is bright enough at medium, but my VA monitor i have on low anyway. I haven't used HDR content on anything to date, so can't comment there.

Where abouts in the South East are you OP? If you’re local I’m happy for you to pop over - I’ve got a CX and a Series X

I’ve just upgraded from a B8 (which died) and haven’t had any brightness issues with that.

That’s extremely generous of you! I’m near Gatwick (Horley) - keen to hear your opinion though!

I’m on the south coast, probably about an hour from Horley :)

Can’t say I’ve ever had issues with brightness but there’s no direct sunlight on my TV.

Furthermore, I’m more than happy to close my curtains and probably do so without thinking about it at times

I used my B8 pretty much exclusively for gaming and had no issues with burn in

Also, I think you can pay £200 for a panel repair which is reasonable.

For me, the benefits of an OLED outweigh the drawbacks.

Thanks so much. Can’t beat that kind of first hand user testimony. I’m going to order the c1. The store I’m going to buy sell 5 year panel insurance for £150 so I may go for that too as it covers burn in.

If you can afford it, it’s a good purchase.

Before you do purchase, let me go and take a picture of my CX playing some content so you can decide if it is/isn’t bright enough :)

This is with a south facing window, room is pretty much as bright as it gets (sunny day, sun low in sky), so not as bright as some but still reasonably so.

OLED light set to 25:

HDR dark scene:

OLED light set to 80 (standard for filmmaker mode):

Due to the way our eyes perceive light, the difference in brightness is subtle.

My mum has a Q95T which has a full white brightness in excess of 500 nits (about 3-4 times brighter than the OLED) and a peak brightness in excess of 1000 (about 2x OLED), yet it’s not discernibly different. It is brighter, and suits her room which is brighter than mine, but if you were happy to close the curtains at all, it becomes irrelevant.

This has dropped in price @currys. Nephew just bought the 75 incher.

Just following up on this - got the C1 set up and love it. Zero issues with brightness!

Found out it doesn’t pass through DTS though which is annoying. I have a separate thread on that though.
