We currently have a 37" LED Samsung TV and the space for a smaller TV 42-43" really the maximum size. We have a Sony Blu-ray player/streamer (BDP-S6700 which is for BD/DVD and streaming).
The Mrs is making noises about streaming with add on random widgets as the old blu-ray player can't support ITVhub/X or all4 streaming, doesn't support Disney, has a crash issue with iPlayer, slow and is basically out of support. To the point she wants to watch Disney and other things on the TV. To add to this, this is the Samsung model that buzzes on dark contrast.. so I actively avoid Samsung products.
Rather than try and add 99 hardware widgets, replace the blu-ray player etc - why not simply replace the TV. The temptation over the last few years has been there, and we've looked at TVs at the local currys before and really liked the Sony Bravia OLED in the small form factor (ie the XR42A90K) when compared to the LG. I suspect the CPU performance will out perform the blurry player for streaming too given it's an XR based range.
I've read the 90K forums and apart from a possible stutter problem someone had which sounds like a software issue, I understand from the spec sheets this already supports iPlayer, ITVX, 4All, Disney and Sony's own streaming service - has anyone had any issues with Bravia and UK streaming before I mention this to the Mrs today?
Only other issue is it will be close (to one side) to the radiator so I'm hoping the Bravia temperature management also helps prevent the screen from dying off due to heat.
