Hi there,

I'm thinking of purchasing the Sony CDX-DAB6650 CD Player with DAB radio for my new car, due to arrive in a week or so.

The question I'd like to ask is on all the sites that sell this player it states it's only the head - which I guess is just the radio front unit thing and not the huge back part of the CD player in a car. (Clear as mud!)

I've got a Astra estate (1999) and I'm wondering if just the head is enough or if I'll need to replace the back part too. I'm totally new to this and would appreciate any advice. :)

Cheers in advance!

You'll need an entire unit, not just a fascia. Can't imagine anywhere would sell the fascia on its own. Unless its been nicked and is on the bay.

head unit means the complete unit.

I don't know what you mean by "not the huge back part of the CD player in a car"

yeah are you talkinga bout the detachable faceplate? because they don't sell those on their own.

Yep. As I say, I'm totally new to this and understand my mistake now! Cheers for the help, I think I'll order this product - nothing but good reviews and has a line in as well for MP3 players. Can't be bad. :)

You're probably talking about the autochanger's that go under the seat or in the boot i assume.

The head unit will contain the radio, amp and single cd player so you're ready to go when it arrives!

Thanks very much. Just out of curiosity, where on earth will an Aux input be located on the unit? I've downloaded the manual for the product and it doesn't say... It's just that obviously with an Aux there will be a trailing wire and I'm just wondered where this will end up trailing to and how the wire connects to the unit.

Cheers

Thanks! :) Where will the back of the unit trail to?

The wires hanging from the back of the unit will hang loose behind the dashboard, my advice would be to connect up the aux lead to an extension from your local electrical store, then find a gap in your dash such as an ashtray or trim joint to bring the lead through. Once through just plug in your mp3 player/device select AUX as your source on the headunit and away you go.

Any problems during installation give us a shout!

Awesome! Thanks very much for your advice and help!

I'll let you know how I get on - it's now ordered. :)

Cheers!

DAB radio can be a bit hit and miss when put in cars, if you have a roof mounted aerial that will help as the signal can be very directional.
