Sony DCR-HC35E. HDV recorded tape cannot playback

I just bought an old Sony DCR-HC35E camcorder to transfer my old tapes to my PC. It is working ok.
It plays the mini Dv it came with, but when I try and playback my old mini DV I get this error...

"HDV recorded tape cannot playback"

Does anyone know if this cam can play HDV or if there is something wrong with the tape?

It won't work unfortunately as the camera only supports SD Mini DV, which uses a different video codec and recording method to HDV (basically HD Mini DV). Even though both use the same type of tape.
