Looking for a decent zoom lens for my A6300.

Admittedly a max of 210mm might be a little too much for me. I think settle for a max of 100mm.

Anyway. Any thoughts on this particular lens?

Thanks

It gets criticized a lot but seems okay to me. I don't think Tele is that useful, I only use it for wildlife and that just needs centre sharpness.

If you want a walk around lens then it doesn't really suit - 18-105 maybe?

Well there is an 18-105 for about £450 but I don't have it.

Have the 16-50 kit for the smallest possible size. The 50mm 1.8 for low light+portrait. And the 55-210 for wildlife. Most of my shots are with the 50.

Will look into 18-105mm options.

Have found the Sony E 18-105 F4 lens. Reviews seem decent. Would be nice to know whether there are any good cheaper alternatives.

Owned one and it's good for the price, but don't expect too much. Quality on mine noticeably dropped off above around 150-175mm to the point that it never got used at anything like 210mm. It's not a fast lens and you need light to keep the ISO low.

I picked up a Sony 18-200 last week for £300 2nd hand. I'm pretty happy with it and will be selling my 55-210 to get some of the money back. It's certainly worth taking a look at as its quite a range and nice not having to change lenses all the time.

For a kit lens that sells for £100 to £150 used I think they’re very good. Not sure if there’s any copy to copy variation but worth a thought.
