***Sony Ericsson makes Xperia Play official***

Arc for me. The PLAY looks good but I don't game much on my handset much anyway. I'd much prefer to have the better camera, HD video recording, HDMI and BRAVIA Engine (even though the latter may be a bit of a gimmick!)

I don't understand why there isn't more fuss over the Xperia play. It may not be the highest specced or even have the latest games, but surely a phone with dedicated controls will appeal to many? For me this is going to be perfect, I hate the touchscreen controls on my iPhone and don't want to carry around a phone and a portable gaming device.

I agree. The phone looks like a gamers dream....It should be very appealing to Android and Playstation fans.....meaning MILLIONS

^ It'll be no different to the near identical Desire Z. For a device most charge everyday it'll have little impact. (3-6 hours per day for games is more than enough :p)

Playstation fans are waiting for NGP (a million, billion times better and cheaper)

...and Android fans can gauge themselves on much more powerful/better/useful hardware.

Although I might get one if it drops below £300 in the Autumn.. :p

Even though the Play will get a shed load of decent Gameloft games, not to mention that exclusive 'Backstab' game, I still find the idea of emulators pretty cool even still. And to think there's that n64 emulator out aswell now, imagine playing games like Goldeneye on this badboy.
I also just got rid of my galaxy S (which I know is well stupid but I work for CPW so I fancy a bit of a change)... Oh and I'm a gamer :D

Let us know how you get on, hopefully Engadget got one with a duff screen (it can't be that dim can it?)

Out of the box they all either default to 'mid brightness' or they use the light sensor which changes brightness depending on how light it is in RL.

No doubt about it though it'll be much brighter once you ramp up the brightness. It won't compare to my old Galaxy S 'S-AMOLED' display however but I'm buying it for the gaming side of things :D

When is this out?!

Vodafone couldnt give me a date for it when I popped in the other day.

Comes out this Friday (1st April)
P.S if it's the same price in CPW as it is in VODA then buy it from Carphone as their phones are unlocked, don't contain bloatware and unlocked phones ALWAYS get the latest updates. Carrier locked phones have to wait a few months longer normally :D

Ok thanks for the advice, unfortunately I wont have much choice in the matter! I am on a contract with Vodafone until July so I am going to have to buy myself out of the contract and then ask for the phone on upgrade....I dont want to change my number
