Hi,

I'm thinking of getting a LCD HD TV as my 21" tv is rubbish and don't have the room to get a widescreen CRT TV. I also want to use my xbox360 with it so would need to be good for games. I don't have a budget as such but would ideally like to spend no more than £1000.

First off would getting a 32" be a good idea as my room is small so i would be quite close to the screen?. But i cant find the Sony v2000 in 26", is there a TV thats as good as it but smaller screen?.

Also i would be interested in the TV you are using with your xbox360 and if you would recommend it.

Cheers

Mark

I don't think you'll have any problems finding as suitable Screen on your budget.

The two main things to look out for are response time and max resolution, £1000 should leave you with quite a bit left over as well.

For £1000 you'll get a very good TV, I'd personally suggest trying the Home Cinema forum on OcUK, or have a look at www.avforums.com as they'll have a lot of threads similar to this one. You're going to want a TV with a very good component input or VGA input, I personally prefer the component, but others will say the VGA is better, but you can't get 1080i out of the VGA cable.

I'm using a Samsung 32" LCD LE32R74BDX (Freeview) HD LCD which I got for £720 brand new a while back. Very good set imho, but you get what you pay for...The sony ones are amongst the best screens available but they do cost more though.

That's 26". He want a 32".

Like DaveyD said it would be best to go to avforums.com. They know there stuff and you will get quicker responses than here. (Not saying OcUK members have a slow response but this isn't really a av forum)

Thanks for the replies, i'll check out the AVforums and home cinema forum. Personally i dont mind if its 26" or 32", we have a 26" in our living room and its a decent size for dvds and xbox. My room is smaller than my living room so i was thinking it was a waste to get 32"?, or is 32" worth the extra?. From what ive found out so far the Sony Bravia KDL-V2000 seems to be a very good TV and can be had for just over £1000.

If 26" is adequate for your living room then it will be fine for your room. How far exactly will you be sitting from the TV?

26":

Sony KDL26-S2010
Samsung LE26R74BD
Panasonic TX26LXD60

32":

Toshiba 32WLT66
Sony KDL32S2010U
*Sony KDL-32V2000
LG 32LX2R
Panasonic TX32LXD60

You cant wrong with any of the above, all great sets.

I would say 32" is definitely worth it, you get more clarity from a set that big. I personally find 26" is quite small, when going HD definitely go bigger.

My friend has the Samsung LE32R41BD and it's cracking once the settings are tweaked.

Thanks for the replies, well after reading your comments and having a quick look at the AV forums, Ive decided to go 32". I will be sitting probably only about 5ft from the screen.

I'll google all of these suggested TV's tomorrow, Ive only really looked at the samsungs and Sonys so far. From what Ive read the Samsungs and Sonys use the same screen but the Sony uses better components and has much more control over the picture via settings.

How much better is the V series Sony than the S series? and is it worth the extra?.

5ft is fine for a 32" screen. I sit about 3ft from my 26" and wish I'd gone bigger.

Just browsing over AV Forums suggests that the V series has a slightly better picture than the S series due to an improved backlight. If it was me choosing, this wouldn't justify the £200 price difference.

A better picture on something I watch would definitely make me pay the extra £200!

There is very minimal difference between the two. Not a £200 difference IMO.

Then again the V series does look a lot sleeker.

I'm seriously considering the TOSHIBA 32WLT66 from your list now, Ive read a few reviews and it seems a decent set. Looks pretty sleek to which is a bonus. Its also £300 cheaper than the v series Sony, if only there was a review comparing the 2.

I think i need to take a trip into *competitors!* and have a look at the TV's on display to make my decision. Ive not looked at TV's for well over a year but i remember Ive always thought the LCD TV's looked poor. Maybe it was just the viewing angles etc.

Thing is with shops like *competitors!*, is that they're not showing the tv's true potential by using an RF signal throughout (Unless on a HD feed of course) so its hard to make a valid comparison.

If it was me, I'd be going for the sony S series. Mainly because it has a better SD picture than the competition and it's also at a nice price.

After reading around a little more it seems the only difference between the S & V series is appearence and colour settings.

Thanks a lot for all the help, i think ill go for the s series in 32" :) . SD picture quality is quite important to me as i have just started getting a DVD collection together. What will the SD picture be like with SD DVDs?, I'm using a low end Phillips widescreen 26" CRT at the moment so I'm hoping it'll be as good as that.

Sorry for mentioning the competitor, i forgot that OCUK sell TVs :o .

Just checked this thread and wanted to add I'm using a 32WLT66 with my 360 (over component) and Sky+ and I'm very very happy.

I was in the same boat about 6 months ago, hung out the AVForums for quite a while, read a lot of reviews and promptly got this one. You wouldn't be disappointed.

32" is waaaaay too big if you're sitting that close. i sit about 4-5 feet from mine and it's only 19", but i find it's plenty big enough.

sitting that close you won't see everything that's going on as you'll only be able to see a small proportion of the screen.
