Sony KDL55w829 or w955?

Hi all, moving into a new place, and obviously my first priority is to upgrade my TV! I game a lot and watch a lot of films, always heard good things about the W829 series, should I save myself the money and go with that?

W955 doesn't get the best reviews, it's using an IPS panel.

829 is a cracking tv go for it while there still around

Like belloni has said the w955 is using a ips panel so blacks will be poor compared to the VA panel used in the 829.

829 is great for gaming.

I was very skeptical about the w829...I wanted a top of the range TV to go in my new place. OLED, 4k, something.

Wife ended up convincing me to go with the w829 for 'now'. So glad I did, it's an absolutely awesome TV. Deep rich blacks, no noticeable backlight bleed which from an LED is pretty hard to come by as you know. I don't watch sports so can't comment on its performance there but for movies, general tv, and htpc use it's superb and I only paid £617 for 55" so really even more happy about that.

Go for it, for the price you won't regret it!
