oh I do like to be beside the seaside
My wife's Sony Vaio laptop has died and I need help!

It's been crashing out when playing Sims, but it wouldn't turn on today.

Pressing the power button made the fan turn for about 0.5 seconds and then it stopped.
I removed the battery, checked the connections and put it back, since then nothing happens when pressing the power button.

HELP !! :)

I have the same problem with an RM machine I am looking at for someone, won't turn on at all despite showing a green light as if it was charging.

Personally I guess something has gone on the motherboard but not worth replacing here. The only thing it looks like is possible is to get the data off.

I tried and still nothing.
If the battery is knackered should it stop it from booting?

It's not unusual. Have you checked the USB ports in case one of those is damaged as this would cause a brief power on (through shorting the board) like you are having.

What's the best way to check them?

I disconnected the ribbon cable from the USB ports and it's working now.

Cheers for the help.
