Hi,

I've finished editing a video with the above software, but as is my common experience with Sony Movie Studio (Basic or Platinum), as well as Vegas, it crashes a lot, or simply 'hangs' indefinitely.

I've tried rendering with the assistance of my GPU (though the video card temp doesn't seem to alter) or just with the CPU, & also trying turning off my anti-virus since I thought that may be the cause, but nothing seems to work.

Here is an example of the settings I used for this project :

Where might I be going wrong?

TIA. :)

None of those settings should cause a crash mate, do you need two-pass on? depending on the source material you may not notice any improvement, it's worth messing with anyway as it can dramatically reduce render times by disabling. I also don't usually allow source to alter frame rate, mostly as I mix up my clips a fair bit but usually want 60FPS regardless (or 59.94)

I'll check my settings when I get home, I did have a crash fix but I'm not sure if that was premier or vegas!

Thanks for the reply. :)

Previous configurations did offer two passes, which I like to have, though at least this time it did render to completion (1 pass) - and unsurprisingly much faster, too. That said, I don't like the brightness / contrast setting I used; it's way too washed out, so I'll render it again and post an image of the settings as well. Incidentally, I did also download the free trial of Sony's top of the range package, Vegas Pro 13 suite, I think it was called. Unfortunately, that had a watermark, so I uninstalled it.

Within reason, I don't mind how long it takes to render, as long as the codecs / quality settings are as good as they can be.

Edit : At this point, should I select AVCHD or go straight to advanced options as I have been to customize things?

Concerning the second image, which is the best setting for quality? Sony XAVC S?

It conked out again. A few weeks ago, I was trying out the one below Platinum in the Sony range, and that did this quite a bit, too. The first sign of it is the sound of the cpu cooler reducing in intensity, along with lower core temps.

Task manager shows it as 'running', rather than 'not responding'.

The settings I used were :

sony vegas movie products do have tendencies to crash randomly.

i take it as part of the thing. i just save regular.

I wouldn't mind so much, Dg, but when it's meant to be rendering, it's a right nuisance. The rendering times seem to be much longer than Premiere Pro, too, though I expect the higher end Vegas products are more efficient than Platinum.

Maybe the 32bit software version might be more stable?

How much RAM are you letting it have? Oddly try reducing the amount as that solved a problem similar for me.

Funnily enough, one of the crashes (out of many) did say that I was low on memory, though I don't know how to alter that. Something to do with pagefile?

There is a setting within Sony MS in the preferences.
Oddly I found the more RAM I threw at it the longer it took to render. Less RAM allowance and it got more stable and rendered faster.

Thanks, I'll look into it after (fingers crossed) my current video finishes rendering. :)
