I'm after a fairly high capacity flash mp3 player and see the Sony NWA808 (8Gb) is ~£85 from a high street retailer (which is about half rrp) So, does anyone have one and are they any good? I'm not at all concerned with video tbh (so any shortcomings with codecs is not a problem) and at this price it seems a bargain. I'm also not an audiophile so quality is not paramount as long as it doesn't sound totally pants :p

Also am I tied to using Sonic Stage (It or can I just drop the mp3's to the device?

I have a couple of Sony MP3 players and generally find them to do the job well. I think that any of the NWA series are ones that are tied into Sonicstage and the newer NWZ are the ones that allow drag-and-drop operation. I know that a couple of the large internet retailers have these on sale at the moment at very good prices. Incidentally I find the sound quality on the Sony machines to be better than on my other-halfs ipod.

I paid £92 for the new 618 which isn't tied to sonicstage, so that doesn't sound like such a bargain to me.

the NWZA818 - is the latest model i think and thats done away with sonic stage, seen it in the white rose currys for £99 and most other places <£100, i had one delivered but my computer couldnt see it so returned as faulty comes with media player 11 for transfer of music

hehe i got a sony nwza816 as a xmas present for someone and theres essentially 4 computers in this house, my pc dual boots and would always want to install something and would always fail when plugging in the mp3 player in when in windows xp, but it works 100% fine in vista and also works great with both the other pc's in the house, laptop xp and a desktop xp.

the sound quality of them is absolutely top notch, never tried a cowon but it absolutely destroys my ipod touch :( even the included headphones were pretty good, was stunning through my shure e4c's though, thinking about getting one myself :)
