My old creative has decided to go lame after 4 years of loyal service so I'm in need of another mp3 player. :(

Having a look round the best one I have seen so far is the new Sony NWZ-A828. Anyone got one, what are they like?

The other things I found on my travels were the Cowon iAudio 7 and the Zune, better than the Sony? The Zune especially seems to have rave reviews on here, what's the difference between the 2nd and 3rd generation 8GB versions?

Bearing in mind I am looking for something small in size and with 8GB ish capacity, with good sound and a long battery life.

Thanks

if you don't need bluetooth, save a few quid and get a 728 instead. i have one, it's awesome. :D

i don't rate the stock sony earphones like many people seem to do ( ) but it sounds great with my cheapo sennheiser px100s. :)

The 728 only seems to be available in the States from what I can see? Having said that I'm sooo confused by Sony's numbering, there seems to be about 30 different models, most not on Sony's site. There seems to be a 829 floating around as well, but Sony's site doesn't have it, nor does any shops that I can see.

Earphones wise other than the bluetooth headphones for running maybe i'll be using my Shures anyway so it doesn't matter about the quality of those, although the reviews seem to like them. Having said that they liked the last pair of Sony headphones I bought, never again!

Ah yeah. :p Thanks :)

Still doesn't explain why they aren't on Sonys website

Now I need to decide if the Bluetooth is worth £20 more, hmmm...

The Sony A828 is considered one of the very best unamped portable music players in terms of sound quality. It really is very good. Very simple interface, and it;s drag and drop which is what I like. Forget the whole bluetooth thing, that's for people who don't care about quality.

I'm thinking along the lines of using bluetooth only when i'm running, when a wire can be annoying, but then using my normal earphones at all other times. :)

I just had a look at it today in the flesh and the first thing that struck me is that it was a lot bigger than I imagined, i'm now starting to wonder if the 638 (premium video) is a better bet as it's supposed to be smaller. Problem is it comes out on the 12 of next month. I'm guessing it will have almost identical internals and UI so sound quality should be just as good? Hmmm more decisions...
