I bought one of these last month and it's a solid little MP3. Great sound quality and bass, however, if the bass goes up the volume level goes down. I'm still using the supplied headphones as they're pretty decent. Does buying another set help with the volume level any?

I had a Creative Zen Micro before, and while that lacked on overall bass, it can't be beaten for loudness. I miss it :(

Is there any work around beyond shelling out ££ for noise canceling headphones?? Budgets a little tight due to possible house move.

Why would I do that?

changes the sound of the earphones completely. in regards to bass, makes them more efficient at the bottom end (louder bass) so you can get away with using a lower clearbass setting on the mp3 player and ultimately being able to play louder. it also increases the noise blocking of the earphones.

masking tape works far better.

not in my experience.
